Indian Air Force instructors deployed to RAF Valley to train UK fast-jet pilots
Three Indian Air Force Qualified Flying Instructors have been posted to RAF Valley in Wales to train Royal Air Force fast-jet pilots, the first such deployment.
The Indian Air Force disclosed that three of its Qualified Flying Instructors have joined the Royal Air Force’s training centre at RAF Valley in Wales, marking the inaugural deployment of Indian instructors to train UK fast-jet pilots. Officials described the assignment as a historic milestone in India-UK defence ties, intended to deepen professional standards, interoperability and long-standing cooperation. The deployment follows discussions between Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and UK National Security Advisor Jonathan Nicholas Powell on regional security, as well as talks between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Powell.
Earlier, Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s visit to India and a joint statement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged expanded armed-forces exchanges, including joint exercises and training. Both sides also reaffirmed commitments to maritime security in the Indo-Pacific and the creation of a Regional Maritime Security Centre of Excellence. Integrating Indian QFIs into RAF Valley reflects the progress of these bilateral agreements.
