Indian and US forces practice urban counter-terror drills in Yudh Abhyas 2026

During the 22nd edition of Yudh Abhyas, Indian and US Army personnel conducted building-clearance and room-intervention drills in the hill town of Auli, Uttarakhand, simulating close-quarter counter-terror operations. The training employed a mix of drones, robotic dogs, trained canines and sniper teams to demonstrate coordinated use of advanced technology in urban settings. Approximately 1,200 soldiers, with equal representation from each nation, also practiced at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan.

Officials said the drills reinforced professional exchanges, tactical knowledge and joint interoperability. This year’s scenario emphasized Integrated Battle Groups operating in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas, reflecting the Indian Army’s rollout of its first five IBGs and a Fire Support Group under the 17 Mountain Strike Corps earlier in the year.
