Indian appliance makers to raise AC, TV and washer prices up to 8% from October
Indian manufacturers of air conditioners, LED TVs, washing machines and other appliances will lift prices by 5-8% starting October 1, blaming higher metal, oil and freight costs.
Indian manufacturers of air conditioners, LED televisions, refrigerators and washing machines plan to raise retail prices by 5-8% from October 1, marking the third adjustment this year. Executives cite rising input costs—copper, aluminium, steel, crude-oil derivatives—and higher freight expenses, compounded by currency swings from the ongoing West Asia crisis. Blue Star, Godrej Appliance, Haier, Daikin and Super Plastronics have already disclosed hikes between 4-10%, while LG and Bosch Home Comfort have also lifted AC prices about 5%.
Panasonic is still evaluating a possible increase. Industry leaders note that the festive period, which accounts for 30-40% of annual sales, could see softened demand, but pre-season stock purchased at older rates should cover much of Diwali buying. Some companies, like Haier, anticipate further hikes later in the year if input costs keep climbing, setting a new post-festive pricing benchmark.
Why it matters
Higher appliance prices could strain household budgets during India’s major festive buying season.
