Indian Army accelerates tech modernization with 6G, quantum and AI initiatives
A parliamentary defence panel highlighted the army's push into advanced technologies such as 6G, quantum computing and an AI cloud as part of its decade-long transformation.
The defence committee’s report places the Indian Army’s adoption of cutting-edge tech at the centre of its ten-year modernization plan, branding 2026 the "Year of Networking and Data Centricity." Partnerships with IIT Madras and sixteen identified technology clusters aim to translate research into battlefield capability. A high-power AI cloud is under development for the army, navy and air force, while the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering supports AI, chip-startup and quantum key distribution projects.
The panel also observed a shift toward unmanned systems and multi-domain operations, including space and cyber domains. It urged timely adherence to project timelines and praised recent procurement reforms that have increased indigenous spending and contracts for the army.
