Indian Army chief inspects Uttarakhand border posts, urges heightened vigilance

General Dhiraj Seth toured the Mana and Joshimath posts in Uttarakhand, assessing troops' readiness and ongoing infrastructure work in the middle sector of the India-China frontier.

General Dhiraj Seth, chief of the Indian Army, visited the border outposts of Mana and Joshimath in Uttarakhand to review both troop readiness and the status of infrastructure development in the region's middle sector, which is considered the least volatile part of the India-China border. He met with soldiers on the ground and stressed the need for sustained operational vigilance to meet evolving security challenges. The inspection occurs while India and China remain locked in a face-off in the eastern sector of Arunachal Pradesh, where the Indo-Tibetan Border Police has confirmed recent incidents.

The Ministry of External Affairs reported that Chinese forces occasionally stray from established patrol routes, leading to intermittent disturbances along the line of actual control. Earlier summer reports indicated sightings of Chinese personnel and graffiti in disputed zones of Arunachal Pradesh, underscoring the tense atmosphere along the frontier.

Why it matters

The chief's inspection signals India's focus on border preparedness amid ongoing tensions with China.
