Indian Coast Guard seized an Iranian dhow with Pakistani crew, confiscating heroin and meth worth more than ₹3,000 crore in the Arabian Sea.
On 25 September 2026, the Indian Coast Guard intercepted an Iranian dhow in the Arabian Sea, west of Lakshadweep, after a hot-pursuit based on actionable intelligence. Five Pakistani crew members were taken into custody, and authorities seized 526 kg of heroin and methamphetamine, estimated at more than ₹3,000 crore on the international market. The vessel, its crew, and the contraband were placed under armed escort to Mumbai for coordinated questioning with Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorism Squad and other agencies.
The operation, described as a demonstration of maritime dominance, aims to disrupt foreign drug syndicates and support the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. Officials said the success underscores India’s commitment to securing its sea borders and protecting its youth from narcotics.
