Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar to Meet Bhutanese Leaders in Two-Day Visit

According to a press release from India's Ministry of External Affairs, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will travel to Bhutan on Sept. 16-17. During the visit he will engage in bilateral talks with Bhutanese Foreign Minister Dhungyel, receive a royal audience from King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and meet Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay. The ministry framed the trip as part of the regular high-level dialogue that sustains the close friendship between the two nations and aligns with India's "Neighbourhood First" agenda.

Earlier in August, Indian and Bhutanese delegations discussed joint management of trans-border rivers, led by Lyonpo Gem Tshering and Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Paatil. Separate meetings also reinforced cooperation in the power sector, involving Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal and Bhutan's energy minister. Both sides reiterated their commitment to deepen technical collaboration and institutional engagement across these sectors.
