Indian markets rebound as Sensex climbs 200 points and Nifty nears 22,660

The Sensex rose over 200 points to cross 73,330, while the Nifty approached 22,660 after a four-day decline.

After a four-day losing streak, the Sensex surged past 73,330, recovering more than 800 points from its intraday low of 72,515. The Nifty climbed to around 22,660 after briefly slipping below 22,400. Kotak Mahindra Bank topped the gains with a rise of over 2%, while Adani Ports, Tata Steel, Eternal, Sun Pharma, Axis Bank, Tech Mahindra, L&T, TCS and Trent each added 1%-2%.

In contrast, Asian Paints, Infosys and HUL each dropped 1%-2%. The mid-cap and small-cap indices posted modest gains, and the India VIX rose 4% to hover near 18. Analysts note that elevated Brent crude prices could curb the rally, urging investors to focus on value opportunities while remaining wary of macro risks.

Why it matters

The rebound signals renewed investor confidence but highlights vulnerability to oil price shocks.
