Indian MP urges vegetarian options for global delegations after BRICS menu debate
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi called on event organisers to provide vegetarian meals, citing her own experiences of limited options at international gatherings.
In a post on X, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi stressed the need for event planners to consider guests' dietary habits and provide vegetarian alternatives. She recounted repeatedly having to specify her preference for vegetarian meals at overseas events, and noted that failing to do so sometimes resulted in a simple bread-and-butter offering. Chaturvedi linked the issue to India's cultural ethos of treating guests with respect, urging organisers to reflect that in menu planning.
Her remarks coincided with discussions about the all-vegetarian fare served at the BRICS summit in New Delhi, which featured dishes such as paneer lababdar and millet pulao. The menu was intended to display Indian culinary diversity to international delegates. While she acknowledged logistical constraints, Chaturvedi emphasized that accommodating dietary needs is a basic aspect of hospitality.
