Indian national transferred to Oregon jail for manslaughter charges in fatal truck crash
ICE moved 32-year-old Rajinder Kumar to Deschutes County custody so state prosecutors can pursue manslaughter charges stemming from a November 2025 crash that killed a newlywed couple.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement transferred 32-year-old Indian national Rajinder Kumar to the Deschutes County Jail in Oregon, enabling state prosecutors to move forward with two first-degree manslaughter counts and three reckless endangerment charges linked to a November 2025 tractor-trailer collision that killed two newlyweds. ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Seattle announced the handover, noting that the action supports the victims' families and prevents the suspect from evading justice.
Kumar had previously been detained after a Border Patrol apprehension near Lukeville, Arizona, in November 2022 and entered removal proceedings. Although ICE placed a detainer on him, Deschutes County released him in April 2026; he was later recaptured and returned to custody. Federal immigration proceedings will stay paused until the state case is resolved, after which ICE will resume removal actions consistent with law.
