Indian Navy seeks home-grown ship SATCOM terminals for GSAT-7R network
The Indian Navy has issued an Expression of Interest for domestically produced ship-borne satellite communication terminals to operate with its GSAT-7R satellite.
As part of its ongoing modernisation, the Indian Navy has floated an Expression of Interest for the design and production of indigenous ship-based satellite communication terminals compatible with the recently launched GSAT-7R satellite. The sought-after C-band and Ku-band terminals aim to provide secure voice, data and video connectivity for vessels operating thousands of kilometres from shore, extending the network-centric warfare capability first demonstrated with GSAT-7 in 2013 and during Exercise TROPEX 2014.
The project will begin with three prototype units—a large C-band, a large Ku-band and a smaller Ku-band model—before moving to a planned batch of roughly 30 systems, with industry covering full development costs and a minimum 50 % indigenous content rule for hardware and software. Rigorous validation will involve three-axis motion-table testing, assessments at the Space Applications Centre in Ahmedabad and a mandatory vulnerability clearance before fleet integration.
Participation is currently limited to MSMEs, though startups and up to five-member consortia may also apply. Interested firms must submit queries by 22 September, with final EoI submissions due on 24 October and a 104-week development window thereafter.
