Indian Oil to fund ₹2,449 crore pipeline linking Kochi and Thoothukudi
Indian Oil Corp announced a ₹2,449 crore investment to construct and operate a natural gas pipeline from Kochi in Kerala to Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu.
Indian Oil Corp disclosed plans to invest ₹2,449 crore in a new natural gas pipeline stretching 424.65 kilometres from Kochi, Kerala, to Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The route will pass through key coastal points including Kanyakumari before reaching its southern terminus. Designed with a total capacity of 6.84 million standard cubic metres per day, the pipeline will allocate 1.71 MMSCMD for common carrier use.
The initiative forms part of a national push to broaden gas networks, improve regional connectivity, and increase the proportion of gas in India's overall energy portfolio. Indian Oil will both construct and operate the facility, overseeing its long-term functionality. The investment reflects the company's role in supporting the country's transition toward cleaner fuel alternatives.
