Indian Railways greenlights safety upgrades and infrastructure projects across multiple divisions
Indian Railways approved a series of safety and infrastructure initiatives, including the rollout of the Kavach 4.0 train-protection system, electronic interlocking at seven stations, an electric-traction upgrade and a new four-lane road overbridge.
Indian Railways has sanctioned multiple projects aimed at boosting safety and operational efficiency. The indigenously developed automatic train protection system, Kavach 4.0, will cover 607.7 route kilometres in the Lucknow Division of the North Eastern Railway, with a budget of ₹252 crore. In the Solapur Division of Central Railway, electronic interlocking will be installed at seven stations for ₹209 crore, strengthening signalling and supporting the Kavach system.
The ministry also approved upgrading the electric traction on the 73-km Savalyapuram-Guntur section of South Coast Railway from 1×25 kV to 2×25 kV, costing ₹142 crore, to increase capacity. A four-lane road overbridge will replace Level Crossing No. 53 on the Udhna-Ukai Songadh line of Western Railway, built on a cost-sharing basis with the state for ₹133.2295 crore, easing road traffic and reducing railway disruptions. These measures collectively aim to modernise the network and improve passenger safety.
