Indian Seafarer Killed After Torpedo Strikes Bulk Carrier MV Cape Dao Near Oman
A torpedo attack on the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged bulk carrier MV Cape Dao near Oman killed Indian crew member Suraj Yadav, while the remaining crew were rescued.
While transiting the Oman route from Mina Saqr to India, the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged bulk carrier MV Cape Dao was hit by two torpedoes on its port side, affecting the accommodation deck and the engine room. The ship carried 28 crew members, including 20 Indians employed by RPSL Keyline Maritime Services, RPSL NavSukh Marine, and RPSL Caspia Shipmanagement. Suraj Yadav, a wiper from Keyline Maritime Services, suffered a fatal head wound.
The Royal Navy of Oman rescued the crew, and the survivors, including 4th Engineer Devraj who sustained a minor injury, are now ashore in Oman. The Forward Seamen's Union of India condemned the attack, demanding immediate accountability and safer passage for Indian seafarers, noting a recent spate of casualties in the Hormuz region.
