Indian Startup Modulus Housing Scales Foldable Buildings with ₹70 Crore Funding Round

Modulus Housing, founded by IIT Madras alumni, has delivered over 1,500 factory-made foldable structures across India and Africa and secured a ₹70 crore Series A round.

Modulus Housing emerged from a student project sparked by the 2015 Chennai floods, when founders Shreeram Ravichandran and P. Gobinath sought faster shelter solutions. Leveraging IIT Madras’s incubation support, they developed a patented telescopic mechanism that folds structures for transport and expands them on site, using a cloud-manufacturing model with partner factories. Since its 2018 incorporation, the startup has supplied more than 1,500 foldable buildings—including classrooms, clinics and temporary housing—to 21 Indian states and selected African locations.

A December 2025 Series A round brought ₹70 crore, led by Kalaari Capital, Hero and Samarthya, earmarked for geographic expansion, product development and scaling the manufacturing network. The firm stresses maintaining quality and cost control as it grows, positioning its modular approach as a way to shorten infrastructure delivery times for remote communities.

Why it matters

Faster, affordable modular construction can improve access to essential services in remote and disaster-affected areas.
