Indian telecom firms Signaltron and Signalchip partner with Indonesia's BRIN to develop advanced connectivity solutions

Signaltron and Signalchip have signed a Letter of Intent with Indonesia's Research Centre for Telecommunication under BRIN to co-develop telecom technologies, including pilot deployments of 4G, 5G and future 6G networks for the archipelago.

Signaltron Systems Private Limited and Signalchip Innovations Private Limited have entered a Letter of Intent with the Research Centre for Telecommunication (PRT), a unit of Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). Founder Himanshu Khasnis said the partnership aims to design secure, high-performance telecom solutions that address Indonesia's unique archipelagic challenges. Planned activities include customizing network architectures, delivering inter-island and intra-island connectivity, and piloting 4G and 5G deployments, with a view toward future 6G trials.

The three parties will also pursue joint research on equipment suited to tropical and maritime conditions, covering positioning, high-speed data, and drone integration. By targeting remote and underserved islands, the collaboration seeks to advance the national goal of “connecting the unconnected.”

Why it matters

Improved telecom infrastructure could bring reliable internet to Indonesia's remote islands, boosting economic and social inclusion.
