India’s New Expressways, Bridges and Vande Bharat Trains Slash Travel Times Nationwide
A government factsheet shows that recent expressways, bridges, tunnels and Vande Bharat trains have dramatically reduced journey durations on major Indian routes.
India’s infrastructure drive is delivering measurable time savings, according to a recent factsheet released by the Press Information Bureau. Expressways such as Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Meerut and Bengaluru-Mysuru have reduced road journeys by more than half, while the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor now connects the two cities in about 2.5 hours. New bridges in the Northeast and Bihar, including the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge and the Kosi Rail Mahasetu, have cut river-crossing trips by up to five hours.
Mountain tunnels like the Atal Tunnel and the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Tunnel have shortened routes by 30-46 km, saving several hours. The rollout of Vande Bharat trains has accelerated rail services, with the Katra-Srinagar run now under three hours. Future high-speed corridors, notably the Mumbai-Ahmedabad line slated for 2027, aim to bring travel times down to under two hours.
