IndiGo A321neo Temporarily Grounded After Tail Contact on Gorakhpur Approach

An IndiGo Airbus A321neo suffered a tail impact while landing at Gorakhpur, prompting the aircraft to be taken out of service pending repairs.

IndiGo’s Airbus A321-252NX, registration VT-ILR, was operating flight 6E 2381 from Delhi when it encountered a tail impact during its landing approach at Gorakhpur airport on Wednesday afternoon. After two aborted landings, the crew completed a successful third attempt at approximately 3.43 pm. A routine walk-around uncovered scratches around the APU inlet, prompting the airline to keep the aircraft grounded for inspection and repairs.

All passengers and crew disembarked unharmed. Airport officials reported that the technical problem linked to the tail contact had been resolved and that the aircraft was expected to leave the airport once it obtains the necessary technical and regulatory approvals. IndiGo noted that the A321neo’s longer fuselage makes it more susceptible to such incidents, and the aircraft will resume service after clearance.

Why it matters

The incident highlights safety procedures and maintenance requirements for modern narrow-body jets after a landing-related tail contact.
