IndiGo flight hits by lightning over Lucknow, lands safely with nose damage
An IndiGo Airbus A320 traveling from Patna to Lucknow was struck by lightning on approach, damaging its nose radome, but all 104 passengers and six crew members were unharmed.
A lightning strike hit an IndiGo flight (6E925) on its final approach to Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, damaging the nose radome of the Airbus A320-251N (tail VT-IQZ). The pilots, unaware of the full impact, reported the event to air traffic control and completed a safe landing, arriving roughly eight minutes ahead of schedule. After vacating the runway, inspection crews observed damage limited to the radome, a component designed to protect the front-mounted weather radar and to endure electrical discharges.
No injuries were reported among the 104 passengers and six crew members, and normal disembarkation proceeded. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has been informed, and the aircraft will stay grounded in Lucknow for detailed technical checks and required repairs before receiving clearance to fly again.
Why it matters
It shows that modern aircraft can safely handle lightning strikes, but thorough inspections are required before returning to service.
