Indonesia and Hong Kong to Stage Inaugural 14-Team FIFA ASEAN Cup
The first FIFA ASEAN Cup will feature 14 national teams, with Indonesia and Hong Kong hosting the two divisions starting Sept 24.
Fourteen sides, including all 11 ASEAN members plus Hong Kong, Pakistan and Bangladesh, will compete in two tiers. Indonesia will host Division 1, where eight teams are split into two groups and the group winners meet in the final on Oct 5. Hong Kong will stage Division 2 with five other nations, divided into two three-team groups, and its final is set for Oct 3. FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the tournament aims to give national squads meaningful matches and deepen regional football ties.
