Indonesia appoints Arrmanatha Nasir as new foreign minister in cabinet shake-up
President Prabowo Subianto has named Arrmanatha Nasir, known as Tata, to replace Sugiono as foreign minister amid a broader cabinet reshuffle.
President Prabowo Subianto announced a cabinet reshuffle that sees Arrmanatha Nasir, widely known as Tata, take over the foreign ministry from Sugiono. Sugiono, who also leads the Gerindra Party’s secretariat, was reassigned as coordinating minister for human development and cultural affairs, replacing Pratikno. The change follows Arrmanatha’s tenure as one of three deputy foreign ministers appointed in October 2024.
The reshuffle affected multiple senior officials, shifting them to different portfolios. Arrmanatha has represented Indonesia at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York and is expected to maintain the country’s proactive diplomatic stance, including its push for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. The government’s broader foreign policy agenda remains focused on multilateral engagement.
Why it matters
The new foreign minister will shape Indonesia's role in regional diplomacy and global issues like the Israel-Palestine peace push.
