Indonesia’s tourism competitiveness score rose to 4.56, moving the country to 23rd worldwide and second in Southeast Asia, according to the WEF TTDI 2026.
According to the World Economic Forum’s Travel and Tourism Development Index 2026, Indonesia’s overall tourism score increased to 4.56, lifting the nation to 23rd place worldwide, sixth in the Asia-Pacific region and second in Southeast Asia after Singapore. The country topped the index’s "Prioritization of Travel & Tourism" pillar with a score of 6.12 and ranked highly for price competitiveness, natural resources and cultural assets.
The report also points to needed improvements in tourism services, infrastructure, health and hygiene, digital readiness, travel openness, and safety. Realised tourism investment surged by 56.05%, rising from Rp47.14 trillion in 2024 to Rp73.56 trillion in 2025, yet most spending stays focused on Bali and Jakarta. The tourism ministry is promoting a more even distribution of funds across 13 priority and regenerative destinations and special economic zones, with a particular push for foreign investment in marine tourism such as yachting and marina infrastructure. Hotel occupancy rates continued to rise, and Indonesian properties earned a record number of MICHELIN Keys, underscoring growing international recognition.
Why it matters
The rise signals stronger global appeal for Indonesia’s tourism sector and highlights opportunities for broader regional investment.
