Indonesia secured the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup title by defeating Thailand in a penalty shootout at Jakarta's Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium. The match finished 2-2 after extra time, featuring an 84th-minute lead from a Dean James free-kick that was deflected, a quick equaliser by Iklas Sanron, and a late goal from Peeradol Chamratsamee before Elkan Baggott restored parity. Both teams played with ten men after Nicholas Mickelson was sent off.
In the decisive shootout, Emil Audero saved Nattapong Sayriya's attempt, giving Indonesia a 4-2 victory. PSSI chair Erick Thohir lauded the players' fighting spirit and warned that serious preparation is needed for the 2027 Asian Cup and the 2030 World Cup qualifiers.
