Indonesia confirms October 18 start for mandatory halal certification without delay
The government says the compulsory halal certification will begin on October 18 as scheduled, with no postponement.
Indonesia will implement its mandatory halal certification on October 18, according to a statement from BPJPH chief Ahmad Haikal Hassan. The government is drafting tailored rules for micro and small enterprises as well as specific imported goods to facilitate orderly adoption. Hassan stressed that the measure does not restrict imports or create undue burdens, framing it as a step toward stronger consumer protection and business certainty under Law No. 33/2014.
Enforcement will be proportionate, supported by expanded guidance, assistance and oversight, and no raid operations are planned. The agency also warned the public against impostors claiming to be BPJPH officials and demanding payments, urging reliance on the official portal for accurate information.
Why it matters
