Indonesia launches $10.2 bn of EV battery and aluminium projects
President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated 11 new industrial projects worth about $10.2 bn, including the first electric-vehicle battery export and four factories moving into commercial operation.
President Prabowo Subianto opened the first EV-battery export and announced 11 new industrial initiatives valued at about $10.2 bn, split between four operational plants and seven under construction at the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park. The operating projects focus on battery separators, electrolytes and aluminium production, while the new constructions cover nickel-cobalt processing, solar-glass manufacturing and electric mining trucks.
Together they aim to create more than 10,000 jobs and boost Indonesia’s downstream sector, which now accounts for 35% of total investment. The park, home to 52 tenants including Glencore and Trafigura, has attracted $20 bn since 2018 and recorded $11 bn in exports, contributing roughly 10% of the nation’s export volume. Power capacity across IWIP and the adjacent Morowali park reaches 15.9 gw, surpassing Singapore’s total. Corporate social-responsibility programs now support 32 villages with over Rp650 bn in funding.
Why it matters
The projects deepen Indonesia’s role in global EV supply chains and create thousands of jobs.
