Indonesia launches full investigation into deadly sinking of Virgo Transport 8

Indonesia has ordered a detailed investigation into the September 13 disaster that claimed the Virgo Transport 8 ferry. Transport Minister Dudy said the probe will assess how cargo was secured, whether the vessel met safety standards, the crew's preparedness and the reliability of the official passenger list. President Prabowo Subianto pledged a thorough review of maritime safety measures in response to the tragedy.

The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) reports that out of 243 people on the manifest, 108 have survived, 19 are confirmed dead and 116 remain unaccounted for. Search teams continue to look for the missing, while authorities in Central Kalimantan are trying to identify a corpse found by local fishermen. Findings from the investigation are expected to shape future national maritime safety policies.
