Indonesia launches Siap Program to equip Gen Z for post-college life
Indonesia's ministry unveiled the Siap Program to help final-year university students develop skills for employment, family and community life.
The Indonesian government introduced the Siap Program, aimed at preparing final-semester university graduates for the multiple stages of adult life, from work to family and community involvement. Minister Wihaji highlighted five key areas of readiness: health maintenance, lifelong education, securing employment, family formation, and civic engagement. Citing the 2025 Intercensal Population Survey, he noted that people aged 15-64 number roughly 196 million, or 68 % of the nation’s 284 million residents, underscoring the need for holistic human-resource development.
The programme seeks to align young people's aspirations with industry demands, stressing integrity and work ethic amid rapid technological change. Partnerships will involve universities, government bodies, and private sector players, building on a pilot that already engaged 893 final-year students. Wihaji stressed that the effort must move beyond forums to provide concrete follow-up and industry involvement.
Why it matters
Equipping Indonesia's large youth cohort with broader life skills supports sustainable employment and social stability.
