Indonesia moves to label key industrial parks as strategic national projects
The Ministry of Industry plans to seek strategic project status for several industrial estates, aiming to boost job creation and economic value.
Indonesia's Ministry of Industry is preparing to propose that a number of industrial estates be classified as National Strategic Projects, a step seen as vital for accelerating downstream processing and industrial growth. Minister Sarmuji said the ministry will work with stakeholders to advance the proposals within the 2027 Government Work Plan, emphasizing the potential for high-quality jobs and added value to local economies.
Tri Supondy, director general for resilience and regionalization, noted that strategic designation would strengthen state support for parks that are crucial to the national industrial structure and requires cross-ministerial discussions to set priorities. As of Q3 2026, the country operated 181 industrial parks with over 12,000 tenants and a workforce of about 2.3 million people. The initiative is complemented by the Industrial Park Bill, slated for inclusion in the 2026 National Legislation Program, which aims to improve governance, licensing, land use, infrastructure, security and environmental management.
Why it matters
Designating parks as strategic projects could attract more investment and create jobs, shaping Indonesia's industrial future.
