Indonesia pledges greater food exports and joint industrialisation at BRICS summit

During the BRICS summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Indonesia's chief highlighted the country's transition from a long-time grain importer to a new exporter of rice, corn and other staples. He argued that this transformation demonstrates how strengthening domestic capacities can surmount historic constraints. Emphasising that interconnected global challenges are opportunities, he urged BRICS members to integrate their distinct strengths for greater economic value.

The proposal called for coordinated industrialisation efforts to optimise shared resources, create jobs and foster inclusive growth. He linked broader economic resilience to the extent that growth benefits the wider population, stressing the need for innovation and inclusive development within the bloc.
