Indonesia Presents Ambitious Energy Roadmap at G20 Meeting in Texas

At the G20 Energy Abundance Ministerial Meeting in Texas, Indonesia's deputy minister of energy and mineral resources, Yuliot, presented a comprehensive energy strategy that balances security, affordability and sustainability. The roadmap seeks to narrow the gap between domestic fuel use of 1.6 million barrels per day and current crude production of about 600,000 barrels by lifting oil output to one million barrels daily, supported by flexible fiscal terms across 118 oil-gas areas.

Indonesia also promoted its pioneering B50 program, blending 50% biofuel into diesel, which is expected to replace 310,000 barrels of imported diesel each day, save roughly US$10 billion annually and generate over two million jobs. The power sector plan for 2025-2034 targets an additional 69.5 GW of capacity, with 76% sourced from renewables, backed by $180 billion in investments and open access for independent power producers.

The country will deploy 100 GWp of solar to supplant diesel generators on the main grid, though coal will remain a key baseload during the transition. Yuliot urged the G20 to respect each nation's sovereign right to choose its own energy pathway and to keep energy transition high on future agendas.
