Indonesia pushes AI-driven tools to boost tourism and MICE sector
Indonesia's tourism ministry unveiled an AI assistant, MaiA, to streamline trip planning and event management, aiming for a more personalized visitor experience.
During the Indonesia Tourism & MICE Outlook 2027, the tourism ministry announced the rollout of MaiA, an artificial-intelligence system designed to assist travelers from planning through post-event recommendations. Integrated into the Indonesia.travel website, MaiA provides inspiration, custom itineraries, interactive maps and multilingual information. Speakers emphasized that AI serves only as a support tool and should complement, not substitute, Indonesian hospitality.
The ministry also outlined priorities such as improving destination readiness, enhancing tourism connectivity, linking technology with workforce development and promoting inclusive, sustainable events that generate value for MSMEs and communities. Recent tourism data showed a 5.71% rise in foreign arrivals in the first half of 2026, with foreign exchange earnings reaching US$8.43 billion.
