Indonesia pushes concrete green investments for COP31 in Turkey
Coordinating Minister Zulkifli Hasan said Indonesia will seek tangible climate finance and green projects at COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye.
During a Jakarta meeting on October 12, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan outlined Indonesia’s strategy to secure concrete green investment at COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye. He stressed that a robust national carbon market is essential for unlocking foreign climate finance, noting an estimated $7.7 billion annual market size. Since its launch in September 2023, the Indonesia Carbon Exchange has recorded roughly US$5.25 million in transactions covering 1.98 million tCO₂e, with 160 registered participants.
The government has already allocated carbon units to four forestry projects capable of cutting about 30 million tCO₂e, generating significant non-tax revenue. Hasan, who chairs the Steering Committee for Carbon Economic Value and the Environmental Fund Management Agency, called for coordinated action across sectors such as smart agriculture, low-emission rice cultivation, silvo-fishery systems, and mangrove conservation, while also advancing waste-to-energy plants with Danantara. The Indonesian team hopes the November 9-20 summit will produce firm cross-border partnerships aligned with national development goals.
