Indonesia pushes electronics sector growth to sharpen manufacturing competitiveness
Deputy Industry Minister Faisol Riza said boosting the electronics industry is essential for Indonesia’s manufacturing resilience and outlined recent trade surpluses and Midea’s expansion.
In Jakarta, Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza stressed that strengthening the electronics sector is vital for preserving Indonesia’s manufacturing resilience amid shifting global economics. He cited a 9.20% rise in the broader metal goods and electronics industry in the second quarter of 2026, with air-conditioner and refrigerator exports posting surpluses of US$103.70 million and US$96.39 million respectively, contrasted by a roughly US$100 million deficit in washing-machine trade.
Riza commended Midea and PT Jaya Refrigeration Equipment for achieving a three-million-unit output and inaugurating a new plant in Cikarang and Karawang that will produce air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines and freezers. The firm projects exporting two million units to ASEAN markets and North America by the end of 2026, a move Riza believes will deepen supply-chain links, increase use of domestic components, and raise workforce skills. He added that the Ministry of Industry will reinforce these goals through mandatory Indonesian National Standards and Domestic Component Level policies to boost product quality and value-added manufacturing.
