At the 2026 BRICS summit, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto called for a renewed spirit of global solidarity rooted in the 1955 Bandung Declaration. He emphasized that the collective weight of the Global South—represented by populous economies like China, India, Indonesia and Pakistan—offers untapped economic potential and should drive inclusive growth. The president outlined how tighter logistics, market integration and shared industrial capacity could address disruptions in oil, gas, wheat, corn, fertilizers and plastics.
He pointed to the New Development Bank as a source of financing and capacity-building that avoids the stringent terms of other lenders. Prabowo also stressed the importance of reducing reliance on external powers and aligning BRICS actions with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals as the 2030 Agenda winds down. The speech framed the bloc as a platform to amplify developing-nation voices and shape the post-2030 development framework.
