Indonesia pushes green industry and stricter standards to boost global competitiveness
The ministry announced that adopting green industry practices and expanding standardization will create economic opportunities and improve Indonesia's global market position.
The ministry explained that the shift toward green industry is both an environmental duty and a source of new economic value, with carbon-trading mechanisms allowing firms to monetize emission reductions. To facilitate this transition, the government will provide both regulatory frameworks and technical guidance for companies. In parallel, the ministry is intensifying standardization and certification work to ensure high product quality, supervising more Indonesian National Standards (SNI) and brands than the previous year.
Officials noted that consistent standards apply to all domestic and imported goods, though only a small fraction of industrial SNI are currently mandatory. The agency plans to add further SNI and brand supervision in the coming months.
Why it matters
Stronger green policies and standards aim to boost Indonesia's industrial growth and international competitiveness.
