Indonesia pushes new green investment framework to fund clean energy transition
At Bali Climate Week, officials outlined a presidential regulation aimed at expanding green financing for clean power, low-emission industry and ecosystem restoration.
Speaking at the Bali Climate Week 2026 forum, Nurofiq emphasized the strategic role of green investment in Indonesia’s climate agenda, covering sectors such as clean power, low-carbon manufacturing, waste management, sustainable mobility, green buildings, and ecosystem restoration. He noted that financing gaps remain a major obstacle to the energy transition and environmental recovery. The government plans to open funding streams through a presidential regulation, aiming to draw investors and spur regional economic growth.
This framework aligns with the country’s Second Nationally Determined Contribution, which targets measurable emission cuts through 2035. By leveraging Presidential Regulation No. 110 of 2025 on Carbon Economic Value, Indonesia intends to make carbon markets more transparent and accountable. Strong coordination between central and regional authorities is expected to drive a low-carbon economy and enhance public welfare.
Why it matters
The initiative could unlock financing needed for Indonesia’s shift to renewable energy and climate-resilient development.
