Indonesia reports ASEAN haze reporting compliance as wildfires continue and foreign aid response stalls

Indonesia's foreign minister announced that the country has submitted its regular updates to the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Transboundary Haze Pollution Control following the Level 3 alert declared in August. The National Disaster Management Agency recorded that 72,009.10 hectares have burned across six priority provinces, with about 734.81 hectares still ablaze, and has deployed over 60,000 personnel for ground and aerial firefighting, including Japanese military aircraft.

President Prabowo Subianto appointed army general Kristomei Sianturi to head the disaster mitigation agency BNPB and tasked officials with assessing resources and fast‑tracking any foreign assistance. Indonesia has not replied to Malaysia's offer of firefighting support, even as haze from the fires spreads to Malaysia and Singapore.
