Indonesia's anti-corruption agency confiscates cash in 20 suitcases during land agency sting
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) seized cash packed in 20 suitcases after a sting targeting the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency, and arrested 17 officials and politicians.
In a coordinated operation, Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission confiscated cash stored in 20 suitcases, amounting to an estimated hundreds of billions of rupiah, along with foreign currency. The sting targeted the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency over suspected irregularities in granting Building Use Rights (HGB) titles. Seventeen individuals were arrested, among them the Director General of Land and Spatial Control and Enforcement, regional land office heads, a Golkar Party central executive board member, and a former regent.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said the counting of the cash is ongoing. The agency must determine within 24 hours, as required by the Criminal Procedure Code, whether the detainees will face further legal action.
