Indonesia's BPJS Kesehatan Refutes Social Media Claims of Program Shutdown
BPJS Kesehatan said the national health insurance scheme JKN remains active, dismissing online rumors that it would be abolished.
Rumors on social media suggested that Indonesia's BPJS Kesehatan health insurance agency would be dissolved, prompting the agency to issue a clarification. spokesperson Rizzky Anugerah told reporters on Tuesday, October 27, that the claim is untrue and that the Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (JKN) program remains a statutory component of the country's social security system. He cited the legal basis of the program, including Law No. 24 of 2011 and constitutional articles guaranteeing social security rights.
BPJS Kesehatan urged citizens to rely on official sources, offering the Mobile JKN application and a WhatsApp-based service (PANDAWA) for membership checks. The agency stressed its focus on enhancing service quality rather than any program termination.
Why it matters
Clarifying the status of Indonesia's national health insurance prevents public panic and ensures continued access to healthcare.
