Indonesia's Defense Minister to Receive Italy's Garibaldi Carrier at Jakarta Port
Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin will greet the Italian aircraft carrier Giuseppe Garibaldi as it docks at Tanjung Priok on September 18.
The Giuseppe Garibaldi aircraft carrier, departing Italy on August 24, is slated to reach Jakarta’s Tanjung Priok Port on September 18. Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin will officially receive the ship, accompanied by top military officials such as TNI Commander Agus Subiyanto and the chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force. An Italian Navy warship accompanied the carrier during its voyage, which included port calls in several nations, notably Sri Lanka.
Upon entering Indonesian waters through the Archipelagic Sea Lanes I off Bangka, the carrier was immediately escorted by the Indonesian warships KRI Brawijaya-320 and KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321. The Indonesian Navy Information Service confirmed the arrival but gave no further details about the ceremony. This visit underscores Indonesia’s naval cooperation with Italy and highlights the country’s strategic maritime engagements.
