Indonesia's investment minister and Tsingshan chief discuss expanding nickel downstream projects
Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani met Tsingshan Holding Group chairman Xiang Guangda to explore deeper nickel and stainless-steel processing at Morowali and Weda Bay.
Indonesia’s investment minister, Rosan Roeslani, held a meeting with Tsingshan Holding Group chairman Xiang Guangda while traveling in China. They examined ways to deepen nickel and stainless-steel downstreaming at Tsingshan’s plants in the Morowali Industrial Park of Central Sulawesi and the Weda Bay site in North Maluku. The discussion also covered the creation of additional downstream industries to complement the existing operations, which include PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel, PT Sulawesi Mining Investment Indonesia, PT Guangqing Nickel Corporations Indonesia, and PT Merdeka Tsingshan Indonesia.
Both sides noted that expanding processing capacity could enhance Indonesia’s industrial base and its position in the worldwide supply chain, especially as nickel producers prepare coordinated output cuts due to lower prices and higher costs. Rosan shared the details of the meeting on his official Instagram account.
Why it matters
