Indonesia Sends Minister to UN Forum on AI Safety for Children
Indonesia's communication minister attended a UN-linked summit in the United States to discuss protecting children from AI-related risks.
Indonesia's Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, took part in a summit in the United States that ran parallel to the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. The gathering, co-led by Emmanuel Macron, Pedro Sanchez, William Ruto and Anthony Albanese, examined both the educational advantages of AI for children and the dangers of data misuse, privacy violations, exposure to harmful material and AI-generated sexual content.
Participants stressed that any AI application for minors must undergo an independent risk assessment involving governments, the UN, scientists and other stakeholders. The discussion also highlighted the need for stronger safety standards, research on AI's impact on child development, and the involvement of parents and educators in policy making. Following the summit, Hafid met with representatives from Roblox and Google to explore further safeguards in the digital environment. Future sessions are planned for the Paris Peace Forum in November 2026.
