Indonesia Sets October 18, 2026 Start Date for Mandatory Halal Certification
The Indonesian government confirmed that the compulsory halal certification regime will begin on October 18, 2026, as required by Law No. 33 of 2014.
Indonesia will roll out its mandatory halal certification system on October 18, 2026, in line with Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance. Popy Rufaidah, Acting Deputy II of the President’s Executive Office, stated that the deadline is a statutory requirement and that inter-ministerial coordination is underway to ensure smooth implementation. The Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) emphasized the importance of preparing imported products and raw materials, urging clear communication with overseas suppliers about Indonesia’s conformity standards.
Muhammad Aqil Irham, BPJPH’s principal secretary, expressed gratitude for the cooperation of ministries and agencies and noted that their input is being used to strengthen the rollout. Deputy for Halal Registration and Certification, Mamat S. Burhanudin, stressed that the regulation is meant to provide legal certainty, fairness, and consumer protection. The government hopes the measure will bolster confidence for both businesses and the public while safeguarding halal integrity.
