Indonesia tests Brazilian fire-fighting liquid to curb forest blazes
Indonesia is trialling a Brazilian sprayable extinguishing fluid in South Sumatra and Kalimantan as part of intensified fire-fighting efforts.
The Indonesian government is accelerating its response to widespread forest fires by testing a Brazilian-made sprayable extinguishing fluid in South Sumatra and Kalimantan, Coordinating Minister Dudung Abdurachman announced. He said the approach will complement helicopter drops and manual ground actions. Earlier trials used a powder-based agent, Realiza Anti Chamas, dissolved in water and applied in the Banyuasin area.
President Prabowo Subianto has directed the TNI, National Police, local authorities and the Ministry of Forestry’s Manggala Agni to intensify firefighting, while also expanding public outreach and reviewing regulations. Listyo Sigit Prabowo noted plans to make the Peatland Restoration Agency more flexible for fire prevention. The combined measures aim to curb the fires that cause haze and threaten peatlands.
Why it matters
Effective suppression could reduce hazardous haze, protect peatlands and limit health and economic impacts across the region.
