Indonesia to build three egg and meat flour plants to cut imports and stabilize prices
Minister Sulaiman announced the government will construct three egg and meat flour processing plants to boost the livestock sector, keep prices stable and reduce imports.
In a statement, Minister Sulaiman outlined a government initiative to erect three processing plants for egg flour and meat flour, aiming to expand the livestock market, maintain price stability and lessen reliance on imported products. Each facility is projected to require an initial investment of roughly Rp200 billion, potentially rising to Rp250 billion for plants that include meat processing. The plan fits into an integrated livestock ecosystem that connects animal-feed raw materials, farmer and breeder production, and downstream processing.
Work could start next year with a target completion window of 1.5 to 2 years, after which feasibility studies will be conducted. Officials expect the plants to give corn-growing farmers a reliable outlet, guarantee feed availability for breeders, and provide a processing channel for surplus egg and chicken meat, thereby improving breeders’ welfare and reducing foreign-exchange spending on imports.
Why it matters
The project aims to strengthen Indonesia's livestock sector, protect farmers and reduce costly imports.
