Indonesia to halve e-commerce fees for qualifying local MSMEs by October 2026

The Ministry of MSMEs will launch a program that cuts e-commerce platform fees by 50 % for eligible small businesses, aiming to start by the end of October 2026.

Indonesia's Ministry of MSMEs is set to implement a fee-reduction scheme that will slash e-commerce transaction charges by half for small businesses that meet the criteria outlined in a new ministerial decree. Temmy Satya Permana, the ministry's Deputy for Small Business, said the program will become operational by the end of October 2026 after the platform integration is completed. Eligible firms must enroll via the SAPA UMKM portal, where the ministry will first verify their information before forwarding it to participating e-commerce sites for final approval.

Roughly 42,000 local sellers have been earmarked, though their applications are still undergoing processing. The initiative aims to boost the presence of Indonesian products on online marketplaces and broaden market access for MSMEs. Future phases will involve additional platforms, including TikTok Shop and Tokopedia, and may be replicated in other government agencies.

Why it matters

Halving online fees could significantly expand market reach for Indonesia's small businesses and stimulate the domestic economy.
