Indonesia to refurbish 1,487 schools in quake-hit NTT region

In Jakarta, the minister for Primary and Secondary Education told the House of Representatives Commission X that the government will undertake a revitalization program for 1,487 schools in the NTT region affected by the earthquake. The plan includes Rp1.2 trillion earmarked for rebuilding severely damaged school infrastructure and replacing temporary classrooms with permanent facilities. An initial emergency relief package of Rp860 million has already been provided to dozens of schools.

Work will commence after the second phase of the budget allocation is entered into the official budget execution record and funds are released to the schools. This effort aligns with the Prabowo Subianto administration’s nationwide school-revitalization agenda, which aims to finish upgrades for all targeted institutions by 2029. Officials emphasized that the project seeks not only physical repairs but also a safer, healthier learning environment.
