Indonesia to unveil five additional army regional commands on Oct. 5

During the TNI Fair at Jakarta’s National Monument, Maj. Gen. Muhammad Nas said the armed forces will launch five new military region commands on Oct. 5, coinciding with the TNI’s 81st anniversary. The locations slated for the new kodams include Yogyakarta, East Nusa Tenggara, North Maluku, Highland Papua and Southwest Papua, bringing the nationwide total to 26. Gen. Maruli Simanjuntak, the army chief, previously noted that the NTT command belongs to the third phase of the expansion, following two earlier phases that each added five commands.

Governor Melki Laka Lena told the commander of Kodam IX/Udayana, Maj. Gen. Piek Budyakto, that construction of the NTT kodam will begin in 2026 and will bolster security, development and troop distribution, including plans for a new army hospital. The ceremony will be part of the armed forces’ anniversary celebrations at the National Monument in Central Jakarta.
