Indonesian Air Force launches cloud-seeding missions over Kalimantan fires
The Indonesian Air Force deployed an NC-212 aircraft from Sjamsudin Noor Air Force Base to seed clouds over South and Central Kalimantan in an effort to curb forest and land fires.
From Sjamsudin Noor Air Force Base, the Indonesian Air Force began a weather-modification operation targeting fire-prone areas of South and Central Kalimantan. Colonel Hilman L.P. Ambarita confirmed that the base provided full logistical support, using the airport apron for the mission.
Major Candra Ary W. piloted the NC-212 aircraft, first flying at 8,000-10,000 feet to drop 567 kg of dry ice over Palangka Raya for 2 hours 5 minutes. A second flight released 800 kg of sodium chloride over Palangka Raya and Barito Kuala in 1 hour 50 minutes. The effort, coordinated by the Military Air Task Force for Forest and Land Fire Emergency Response, seeks to suppress fire hotspots and protect the public from smoke, with the base committing all available resources to ensure precise and safe execution.
