Indonesian Navy to escort Italian carrier Garibaldi into Jakarta waters
The Italian-built carrier Garibaldi is sailing toward Jakarta and will be met by Indonesian Navy frigates and aircraft as it enters national waters.
The aircraft carrier Garibaldi, constructed by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, is on its way to Jakarta after a stop in Colombo, Sri Lanka, with an expected arrival at Tanjung Priok Port on September 17, 2026. While traversing international waters, the vessel is being escorted by Italian Navy ships. Upon reaching Indonesian maritime territory, First Admiral Tunggul announced that at least two Indonesian Navy frigates and aircraft from the Naval Aviation Center will assume escort duties in ALKI I waters.
A formal welcoming ceremony is planned in Jakarta, after which the carrier will be dispatched to support operations aimed at suppressing forest and land fires in Kalimantan. The coordinated escort underscores cooperation between the Indonesian and Italian navies and highlights the carrier’s role in regional disaster-response efforts.
